There are so many dieters out there that decide on the low carb regime to lose weight. Many will swear by the results and have completely changed their whole lifestyle to embrace their new dieting regimen. People that are new to the low-carb existence have a very narrow mindset about what they can and cannot eat. It all depends on the plan you follow as there are several that have a few different "rules" that one should follow for the best results. I myself was initially under the impression that a low-carb lifestyle meant eating nothing but meat, cheese, eggs, and salad. Now depending on which low carb diet book you read, one says it's quite alright to eat full fat condiments such as full fat mayo and dressings. Other experts disagree and will tell you that eating low-carb does not give you a free ticket to clogging your arteries in the name of weight loss.
So, who do you follow most of the books you find on low carb dieting are written by doctors who have apparently been researching the effects of a low-carb, high fat vs. low carb, low fat diets? I believe common sense should rule here on the side of caution.
I don't know the statistics of how successful low-carb diets are over any period of time, but I do know that except for a choice few diehards, it is extremely difficult to completely cut out one food group for a lifetime of good weight and health. I believe that perhaps a low carb diet will work in the interim but over time after the weight has been lost, it's just too easy to fall back into the eating routines that got you overweight to begin with. One slip up of a sugary dessert could send you back to a complete and total carb meltdown. When your body hasn't had these types of sugars within the body for some time, one dose of it sends your blood sugar soaring creating a massive reaction to your senses telling you to just keep eating the carbs cause there's no turning back.
So yes, eat a low carb diet to help you lose some weight quickly by eating lean meats, cheeses, and salads, but in my opinion, forgo the high fatty dairy products and stick to healthier fats so you're not putting yourself at a higher risk for other complications.
