Does your diet tell you that you can't lose weight and have a dessert sometimes? Or does it include sweet treats, but these are not only low in calories but they also don't really taste like anything? Then it's definitely time for a change! Did you know that, in fact, having a nice treat every now and then will significantly increase your chance to lose weight successfully and to keep it off?
All you need to do is ensure that the treats and desserts you have are healthy and low in calories. Low in calories, not in taste!
An excellent way of creating healthy and tasty desserts is to add fruit. That makes it sweet, and fresh fruit has naturally a great flavor. Plus, of course, it contains plenty of important vitamins and fiber. If you have fruit in your dessert, you will need less other (possibly high calorie) foods, so your calorie intake will be lower and because fruit fills well and quick you won't overeat that easily.
Here is a low calorie dessert that can do totally without sugar.
Strawberry Cream Dessert
Ingredients
3 tsp. gelatin
250 g low fat or fat free yogurt
400 g low fat or fat free smooth cottage cheese
250 g mashed strawberries
8 whole strawberries and some mint leaves (for decoration)
Steps
Put 1 tablespoon of cold water into a small cup, sprinkle the gelatin over it and allow swelling for 10 minutes. Place the cup with the gelatin into a pot with boiling water and stir until the gelatin has dissolved. Allow cooling down a bit.
In the meantime, mix the yogurt and cottage thoroughly until the mixture is smooth. Then add the gelatin and mix well.
Spoon half of the cheese-yogurt-mixture into another bowl and mix it with the mashed strawberries.
Then fill a layer of strawberry cream and afterward one of cheese-yogurt cream into four high dessert glasses. Put them into the fridge for a few hours until the cream is firm. Decorate it with the strawberries that you kept and some mint leaves and serve.
Variations
This low calorie dessert is not only quick and easy to make, but you can also use it as a basis to create many other variations that are just as tasty and healthy. For example, use other types of berries, or banana. You could also use pear or mango pieces and blend the cream in an electric blender.
Another way to create different flavors is to experiment with different yogurt flavors. Instead of plain yogurt, try the one with vanilla flavor (provided you get it unsweetened, otherwise you can add vanilla essence to plain yogurt).
You can also add some spices to your cream. A teaspoon of ground cinnamon can do wonders, and mint tastes especially nice with raspberries. Only thing you must not add is sugar.
