Greensboro, NC -- New boxer,?Darina "Dee" Mims is a mail clerk at the post office by day. But at night, she's in the ring, training, trying to earn a spot on the first-ever women's olympic boxing team.
Wednesday night,?the gym at the Lindley Rec Center hosted a spaghetti dinner and bake sale to raise money to help Dee and her trainer travel to Colorado for the trials. It'll cost $2,500 to send the two of them to Colorado. Event organizer Lataya Taylor said?Mims deserves it.?"Greensboro needs an olympic medal and Dee Mims is the one thats gonna bring it home."
Dee was there to thank her supporters.?"I really appreciate everything that everybody's doing to show their support for me so?I just want to say thanks." She didn't eat any spaghetti because she had more training and sparring to do.
If you missed the fundraiser, but would like to donate to help Mims travel to Colorado, call the Lindley Rec Center at (336)373-2930.
