Squeals of delight, warm hugs and a variety of sweets marked results day in most ICSE schools across the city.
Many schools had made arrangements on their premises for their students to see the results online. And many students came with their parents to check out how they'd fared. When they found they'd done well, anxiety gave way to celebration. Schools like Bethany High School had even arranged for snacks and sweets for parents and students.
For many students, it was the culmination of months of hard work. And it paid off. Shubham Bhuwalka of Bishop Cotton Boys' School, who secured 674 marks, was gifted an iPhone by his father. He plans to study Commerce in Plus 2. "Being calm helped a lot. I focused on one subject at a time and studied less during exams. I took little breaks during preparation and didn't worry too much during the exams," he said.
Agreeing with him, Amitha Ajith Kamath of Vidyashilp Academy had her own ways of beating stress. "My stress buster is meditation. I learnt how to meditate in February when I was getting stressed out with exams and it really helped. Now, I can confidently advise juniors to stay calm and not get stress out. It's not such a big deal," said this student who scored 674. "I made notes after reading each chapter and learn from the notes as it was easier to understand. I plan to do PCMC because I've always enjoyed studying about computers. I also go to IIT-JEE tuitions," she added.
As for Avni Mehta of Bethany High School who scored 669, it was combined study that did the trick. "I studied consistently since December. I find that waking up early helps me concentrate. I never got tense during exams. My friends and I always had combined study sessions and it was relaxing to study with them -- all of us helped each other out," she said.
Though around 7,000 students appear for ICSE exams, the number of students who take up ISC is only around 1,000 as students prefer to move to other streams. "I've applied in PU colleges, but I'm keeping my options open as I wouldn't mind joining a CBSE school. I want to do PCMB as I find Biology really interesting," Avni said.
Those looking for a career in Science have already started gearing up. Like Cibi Pragadeesh K A of St Thomas Public School who got 675 marks plans to join Deeksha College. "I will take up PCMC with AIEEE, CET and IIT coaching," he said.
