Over the course of the weekend 11 players arrived in Walla Walla either by air or car. Meeting for the first time as a team, there are more players on the way, the players were given the team rules and then got a chance to don their new Sweets gear on the field. During the two hour workout the hitters took aim at their new surroundings and got used to the wood bats of summer baseball with on-field batting practice. Always willing, the pitching staff, that stands at seven now, shagged in the outfield while alternating over to the bullpen to throw.
Sunday marked the beginning of long but quick summer in Walla Walla for these young men; a 60-game schedule will be played in little over two months. The 11-player roster will quickly grow as the rest of the Sweets finish up their college seasons and make their way to Walla Walla. In four days the Sweets will take the field for Opening Day and for another summer will give Walla Walla baseball.
