Local Business Report: Sweets Suite Bake Shoppe Café opens in Millville

MILLVILLE -- The Sweets Suite Bake Shoppe Caf? opened Tuesday in the North Gatehouse at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Chef Adrianna Spencer of Vineland is making her first solo venture. Spencer earned associate degrees in both culinary arts and pastry arts from Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing.

She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in culinary arts and service management from Paul Smith's College in New York.

She worked at the The Fat Canary, a five-star restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg, Va., for two years as its sole pastry chef.

The menu includes a variety of sandwiches made fresh to order featuring local whole grain breads, organic meats and natural cheeses.

The "Great Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dog" is made from 100 percent organic, grass-fed beef.

Sweet treats include: individually wrapped brownies such as Pudgy Fudgy, White Chocolate with M&M's; Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatrageous! and Nana's Sand Tarts; cupcakes (iced to order); muffins; and scones.

Beverages (lemonade and iced tea) are made fresh daily with no preservatives. Premium coffee from Green Mountain Roasters is available in a signature blend and decaffeinated. Juicy Juice boxes are on the menu for children.

Wheaton Arts is the home of the Museum of American Glass with the most comprehensive collection of American glass in the country, the Creative Glass Center of America International Fellowship Program, Folklife/Education Center, Glass, Ceramics and Woodcarving Studios, and award winning museum stores. Wheaton Arts features special exhibitions, programs, workshops, performances and several weekend festivals throughout the year.

MILLVILLE -- One lucky lottery player bought a winning Mega Millions ticket at ShopRite here last week, the New Jersey Lottery announced.

The ticket had enough correct numbers to collect the second prize of $250,000. The jackpot went to a Michigan player who got all six numbers correct. The grand prize was worth $27 million.

The ShopRite store here will collect $500 for selling the second-place ticket, the Lottery said.

In addition to the $250,000 winner, more than 37,000 lottery players in New Jersey collected winnings between $2 and $10,000. In all, New Jersey players claimed $405,969 in winnings from the Friday drawing.

Walmart stores in Vineland, Millville and Upper Deerfield rolled out a new service May 4 known as "Pick Up Today," the company announced.

By the end of June, the service will be available in nearly 3,600 stores nationwide.

Pick Up Today allows customers to browse the inventory of their local store, purchase items online and receive free same-day pickup at their local store. It's easy, fast and there are no shipping fees.

It includes thousands of items across multiple categories such as baby, toys, home d?cor, hardware, outdoor living, electronics, household appliances and video games.

By holiday season 2011, Pick Up Today will expand to include up to 40,000 items across multiple categories.

VOORHEES -- Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey is hosting a half-day "Women's Conference" here on Friday for the " busy working professional."

The event will feature advice on wellness, health and lifestyle, legal, financial and technology matters for women. It coincides with the installation of the chamber's first chairwoman -- Judith L. Roman -- in its 138-year history.

The event sponsors are AmeriHealth New Jersey, Hyland Levin, South Jersey Industries, Subaru of America, Virtua, AT&T, Rutgers University School of Business-Camden and TD Bank.

The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The location is the Mansion on Main Street, 3000 Main St. Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m.
