'Bones' Recap: 'The Signs in the Silence'

In an unusually heart wrenching episode of Bones, their case arrives from Ms. Julian after the arresting officer brings in a young girl who is both deaf and “uncommunicative” and is accused of murder.

While Angela is worrying her baby will grow up to be a murderer, Brennan and her intern –Arastoo Vaziri– attempt to identify the girl, though she is very uncooperative. Sweets, however, appeals to Brennan’s past as a foster child to ask her to use a different method of identifying the girl.

Off a few clues, Booth and Brennan find the man whom the young girl allegedly killed. Afterwards in the usual diner, Bones displays some empathy for the girl after Sweets unintentionally and circuitously accuses her of being cold and uncaring; Brennan even says, “I’m not as cold as everyone assumes.” Holy character development being displayed in this episode!!

Bones and Angela conspire to figure out where the girl is from; using this information, Booth actually finds the girl’s parents, and she is identified as Amy.

Meanwhile, Angela is having contractions!!

And more on Bones’ character development, she becomes very snarky when it comes to her being thought of as cold: she gets very testy when Mr. Vaziri confronts her about her objectivity and making the case personal.

In an appeal to ask for x-rays, Brennan relates to Amy, telling her she knows what she’s been through, as it transpires Amy is a victim of child abuse. Brennan also determines (by examining the parents’ noses) that the couple claiming to be Amy’s parents are, in fact, liars.

Interrogation gets rather sticky when Sweets presses the fake mother for information on what happens. Her husband smacks her when he feels she is slipping with her composure, and Booth takes him out!!

In the meantime, Bones and Vaziri determine Amy was actually defending herself when she killed the original victim, who it turns out had kidnapped her. They also determine from the x-rays that Amy was kidnapped at 3.

And, Angela goes into labor!

Brennan and Sweets try to help Amy remember who she is and where she is from, with minimal success. However, Bones asks for Amy’s wisdom tooth, telling her she can determine where Amy is from by conducting tests on it.

Together, Booth and Brennan locate Amy’s parents in California, and Samantha (Amy’s real name) is reunited with her original parents!

And it turns out, Angela was in "fake labor." Looks like we still have to wait until the baby is finally born!
